Highlands Of Durham Games - A Staycation Destination
9:44pm - Jul 22, 2009

Come and experience this Celtic festival and celebration as you enjoy a wee bit of Old Scotland. This two day festival celebrating your Celtic roots takes place at Elgin Park July 25th and  26th. Events include plenty of great musical entertainment, Celtic livestock demonstrations and displays, highland dancing competitions, Pipes and drums, and heavy event competitions, watch a dry stonewall demonstration, there will be something for all ages.

This year’s entertainment features Poor Angus along with the mass bands. Watch Mike Patten of Heritage Walls, as he and other participants work together to build a beautiful stone wall. An enjoyable and educational part of the Games is the livestock shows. You wiil have an opportunity to see different animals of Celtic origin such as the Scottish Shorthorn, Ayrshire, and Highland or perhaps a Soay or a Connemara and of course the Clydesdale. If you’re a dog lover the show will include many breeds such as the border collie, the Dandie Dinmont Deerhound, Smooth Hair Collie, Bearded Collie, Long Hair Collie, Sheltie, Gold Retriever, Gordon Setter, West Highland Terrier, Scottish Terrier, Cairn Terrier and the Skye Terrier.

When you think of Highland Games you also think of good food and good drink and the opportunity to enjoy a wee taste of Scotland.. Well this year they have added a new food feature A Food Fight. (haggis toss)

Come and join the fun as we celebrate this 15th annual family event.
